LIVECoVET at FIMA: Advancing Skills for a Sustainable Livestock Sector
A few weeks ago, within the framework of FIMA, our Spanish partner CAMPAG presented the LIVECoVET project both at their stand and during an innovation-focused session held at the fair.
FIMA provided an ideal setting to showcase innovative initiatives shaping the future of the livestock sector. Among them, LIVECoVET stood out as a forward-looking European project committed to strengthening Vocational Education and Training (VET) and supporting the sector’s transition towards sustainability and digitalisation.
Driving innovation through training
LIVECoVET focuses on the development of specialised training programmes tailored to the evolving needs of the livestock sector. These programmes are designed to equip both current and future professionals with key green and digital competences, addressing critical challenges such as climate change adaptation, ecological transition, and increasing demands for efficiency and resilience.
The project responds to a clear need identified across Europe: existing VET systems often struggle to keep pace with rapid technological and environmental changes in livestock farming . By aligning training content with real sector demands, LIVECoVET contributes to closing this gap and preparing a workforce capable of leading innovation on the ground.
Strengthening VET for real impact
One of the core strengths of LIVECoVET lies in its collaborative approach. The project connects educational centres, industry stakeholders, and institutional actors across Europe, creating a network of excellence that promotes knowledge exchange and best practices.
This approach is essential in a context where practical, hands-on learning and stronger links between training and real farm environments are increasingly recognised as key to effective VET systems . LIVECoVET integrates these principles by promoting training formats that are practical, flexible, and closely connected to the realities of the sector.
Supporting the green and digital transition
The livestock sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by European strategies such as the Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy. These frameworks highlight the importance of developing new skills related to sustainability, animal welfare, digital technologies, and resource efficiency .
LIVECoVET directly contributes to these priorities by embedding them into its training programmes, ensuring that learners are not only technically competent but also prepared to operate in a more sustainable and data-driven agricultural system.
Looking ahead
The presentation at FIMA marks another important step in disseminating the project’s vision and results. As LIVECoVET continues to develop and implement its training solutions, it aims to play a key role in modernising VET in the livestock sector and supporting a more sustainable, resilient, and competitive European agriculture.
Stay tuned as we continue sharing insights, results, and opportunities emerging from the LIVECoVET project.
