FAO eLearning Academy shares key insights with LiveCoVET
As part of LiveCoVET’s commitment to strengthening digital competences in vocational education for the livestock sector, our team and project coordinators from KU Leuven recently participated in a key session focused on developing innovative educational platforms.
On 6 November, the Department of Biosystems at KU Leuven welcomed Cristina Petracchi, Head of the FAO eLearning Academy, who presented FAO’s online learning platform and the opportunities it offers for teachers, students and professionals in the agri-food and livestock sectors.
During her presentation, Petracchi showcased how the FAO eLearning Academy has become an international reference in digital education, thanks to its accessible, scalable and competency-based approach. Participants were able to explore:
-
Learning methodologies tailored to diverse learner profiles
-
Free, multilingual digital resources
-
Competence-based assessment approaches
-
Successful implementation cases from different countries
These insights are especially valuable for LIVECoVET, which aims to build a digital learning environment that meets the evolving needs of the livestock sector—one undergoing both a green and a digital transition.
The session not only offered a closer look at the capabilities of the FAO eLearning Academy but also created a space for dialogue on how to integrate international best practices into the LIVECoVET project. Key takeaways included:
-
The importance of competence-based learning
-
The need for flexible, inclusive and accessible learning platforms
-
The value of fostering collaboration between universities, international organisations and VET centres
-
The opportunity to develop training content that supports sustainability and animal welfare
LiveCoVET continues to move forward in designing a digital learning platform that combines technological innovation, academic excellence and strong sectoral relevance. Collaboration with institutions such as FAO and KU Leuven reinforces our vision of providing modern, connected and globally aligned vocational training for the livestock sector.
This session marks another step towards building an educational ecosystem that strengthens the digital skills and competences of future livestock professionals.
